Overview: Avanta (www.avanta.co.uk), a serviced office business now owned by Regus, achieved BREEAM excellent through their introduction of equipment-specific energy monitoring at their Eagle House development in Shoreditch, London. Argand Solutions worked with Avanta and their electrical contractors Randburg Electrical (http://www.randburg.co.uk/) to provide an energy monitoring solution that integrated with their smart distribution boards. The solution provided real-time energy monitoring split by power & lighting. In addition, the solution enabled the client to defer from installing a Building Management System (BMS), saving significant capital, and helped them to achieve BREEAM excellent.
Client Problem: Avanta (www.avanta.co.uk), a large-scale serviced office developer and manager, approached Argand Solutions with the need to provide a real-time energy monitoring solution for their Eagle House site in London’s Shoreditch. This was to both meet the requirements to achieve BREEAM excellent and to also enable greater energy efficiency interventions / awareness once up and running. The client had a main electrical contractor, Randburg (www.randburg.co.uk), who were tasked with the installation of all of the metering. This had to interface with Argand’s communication hubs to extract data in real-time. The electrical metering was installed as an Eaton “smart distribution” board which split out the circuits for both lighting and power for each floor / area plus other main equipment types. In addition, water metering was required and had to be integrated into the same system.
Argand’s Solution: Argand worked closely with the client and their electrical contractor Randburg Electrical (www.randburg.co.uk) to understand their technical needs very clearly and developed a simple solution to fit seamlessly with Randburg’s Smart Distribution Board installation where every electrical distribution board had a metering point for power, lighting and other main electrical bits of equipment e.g. condensers, servers etc. The solution enabled data to flow at 30-minute intervals for up to 30 electrical metering points and then provided real-time visualisation and analytics via Argand’s Energy Lenz analytics platform. The platform communicates the energy profiles and analytics hat is driving action within the businesses office users. The key to the solution is that it met BREEAM’s requirements to enable the client to achieve an excellent rating and was highly valued by the consultants for its aesthetic and approach to providing insightful analytics clearly.
Client Benefits: The client achieved their BREEAM excellent rating and highly impressed their consultants with the technology provided by Argand Solutions. The client, being extremely happy with the results, is now working closely with Argand Solutions to provide monitoring at other sites across London to enable clarity with regards to energy consumption and the associated analysis.
